Once an idealistic cop ready to make a difference in the city of Racoon, Leon begins his journey fairly young. Even at his most unskilled, Leon was capable of overcoming the various obstacles of Racoon City. Since, his abilities have grown, and this affords him a significant amount of confidence. Even when knowing the odds, his training allows him to charge into situations that would stop many other officers. This same confidence carries over into conversations, and even allows him to defy government orders when he decides it's the right thing to do.

The confidence isn't unearned. Originally, Leon is introduced fresh from the police academy, but he also gains significant training through the government after the events of Racoon City. While he's not as large as some of the other agents [we often see him next to Chris or Krauser, who are large men, but he's more comparative in size to Piers], he has a decent amount of strength, but his true skills lie in his mobility and control of his body. We see this when he manages to avoid a laser-filled room. Likewise, his abilities in weaponry is impressive, and Ada once compares him to a genius for his tactics and quick thinking.

But Leon is also kind. In Resident Evil 2, he pushes Ada out of the way and is shot in her place. This sets the stage for a man that is willing to sacrifice himself for someone in danger. Even in the latest game that features Leon [Resident Evil 6 currently], he is willing to rush in if it means saving someone who may otherwise be hurt. It pushes him to stop even the most dangerous of enemies.

Depending on the canon point, Leon has either brown or blonde hair, with one side of his bangs typically hanging somewhat longer than the other. He stands fairly tall, with decently broad shoulders.
